Atkins Meat Lasagna, Cooked

Among the new Atkin’s frozen meals, they finally come out with a few that don’t have a ton of veggie’s in them. One of those is the new Meat Lasagna. It’s describe as a classic pasta layered with premium ground beef and ricotta cheese in a savory Italian-style tomato sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese. With 39g of protein and only 11g net carbs, I decided to give it a try. One thing that I have noticed is that my microwave has too much power for the Atkin’s meals and I need to alter the directions slightly. For the meat lasagna, it calls for 4 minutes on high, fold sauce in, two minutes on high, then sit for two minutes. Instead of running on high, I cut it to 80% power. This seems to work pretty well.

First impressions, it doesn’t look as appetizing as the picture on the box; no surprise there. The smell is not so bad, but is more like beef broth than pasta sauce. The consistency is both watery and rubbery. The taste is less than spectacular, but tolerable.

My preference would still be Stouffer’s®. However, if you need to cut carbs, it’s not so bad that I won’t be having it again. But it is definitely not a go-to meal.
